Today we visited the community of Farin Gida. It's in the northern part of Kaduna. It's a mixed community where the traditional ruler is Muslim, but much of the population is Christian. We were welcomed into the community by a delegation before walking down to their current source of water. In the middle of a sugarcane patch a small creek trickles. Later in the rainy season, it will actually flow all the way to the river, though it doesn't currently. Just above the sugar cane, folks have dug a small hole from which they pull their water. Those who can afford to, boil the water before using it. Not all have that luxury. The community has appealed repeatedly to the state government to help fund the drilling of bore holes to no avail. The Rotary Club of Kaduna is taking this on as a project next year and have great visions of a multi-pronged approach. We had a bit of time to interact with the local kids as well, passing out stickers and balloons.
Visits like this make us all very grateful for the lives we are blessed with. It also pushes us to try to find resources to help them.

thank you team for what you are doing to bring good will from our country to the Nigerians. Hopefully some WNC Rotarians will be reading this blog and feel moved to help with one of the projects that you talk about on this blog. Thanks for posting.
